Because he’s a dictator and he will turn any mass protests into an opportunity to declare martial law to send the opposition and millions of opposition supporters into prisons on terrorism charges. Meanwhile, he’s reducing the value of everything through devaluation so that foreign investors can invest and buy up all cheap assets, companies and real estate while Erdogan and his inner circle enjoy their billions of US dollars living in palaces and secured mansions.
The author kinda misses the fact that the opposition also makes efforts to find common ground to not live another 2015.
Before things get better, they have to get worse. The only question is, how much worse?
