Didn’t they do a time capsule underneath it ? They said there’s a bunch of shite under it
I don’t get why it gets so much hate.
Would’ve thought the statue in Fairview of Seán Russel would be the most divisive.
The pole in the hole
Couldn’t even keep the lights on it working.
Wasn’t it called the Spire of Light or something, with lights running up along it near the top, and a light pointing in four directions about half way up.
All broke soon after it was installed and they never bothered to fix it. Or some idiot signed off on a design where maintenance was impossible or not factored into design.
The needle is very appropriate considering the street it’s on.
It certainly works as a “landmark” (you can pretty much orient yourself anywhere in the city based on it lol). As a piece of art, not so much.
It’s a extremely popular meeting point, even amongst curmudgeons and the usual bellyachers.
I always preferred the idea of a Pearse statue going there.

Divisive? I thought it was unanimously disliked.
The hypodermic needle
I was there on [the day they put the last part up](https://youtu.be/_NCZbQ5oPbI).
