I was just looking at the 3D view from Google maps on the A8 highway northwest from Munich and stumbled upon a truck accident which caused a traffic jam. I don’t know how exactly these 3D renders are created, but I guess it uses several satellite images at different times to be able to recreate 3D objects from 2D objects with (slightly) different perspectives. It’s interesting to see that the cars in the traffic jam near the accident are apparently moving faster than the ones in the back and therefore look more diffuse.
