Austria got the highest number of application for asylums per head in Europe, so it’s only logical that the goverment must force the commission to act.
If that doesn’t change, the FPÖ (like Orban, just way more open fascist and pro Öxit) will get the almost the absolute majority of votes. Currently they are leading the polls with 28 %.
The left parties are destroying themself, you have the Grüne (Greens) who are acting like the ÖVP (EPP, known for corruption) just with a LGTB flair and then you have the SPÖ (Socialdemocrats), who are split in the Vienna group (focus on open borders, LGTB, citizenship for everyone) and the Burgenland group (want the SPÖ to position themself again as a workers party with a focus on housing, work and the social system, but against open borders).
Even the communists the KPÖ, who are pro Russia and Yugoslavia are gaining ground. In Carinthia they have a real chance to enter the parlament and Carinthia was known for beeing pro FPÖ.
Meanwhile the FPÖ just has to be quite to win the elections.
So yeah, it’s not looking good.

How the actual hell do two countries (Netherlands and Austria) get to decide free travel between Bulgaria, Romania and the the entire group when 1: they don’t even border the countries and 2: make up less than 10% of the areas population. They need to get rid of the unanimity rule and replace it with a 75-80% population rule, which is still quite conservative.

Bulgaria’s president Radew spent new year’s eve in Vienna where he watched the new year’s concert together with Nehammer. There isn’t really any hostility between Bulgaria and Austria rn, this visit was initiated by Bulgaria and while Shengen was obviously subject the main purpose was to talk about what support Bulgaria can receive to help control its borders with Turkey.
Austria is asking the EU for funds for Bulgaria, eg for drones, but will also offer biliteral help, for example by sending Austrian police to Bulgaria to help like they’re already doing with some other countries.
The Austrian delegation said that they’re “clearly on Bulgaria’s side” when it comes to financial and other help and Bulgaria said that they “accept the veto” although they’re obviously not happy about it and point out that they’re protecting their borders.
On a different note, Austria had once again the most asylum applications per capita in the EU in 2022 and there still isn’t much response to any requests for help.
