Turkey won’t support Sweden’s bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, venting anger at burning of Islam’s holy book in the Swedish capital of Stockholm.
“If you cannot show this respect, then sorry but you will not see any support from us on the NATO issue,” Erdogan said in Ankara, speaking after a cabinet meeting. “Don’t expect such support from us,” Erdogan said, referring to Turkey’s stance on the prospective membership of Sweden and Finland in the military alliance.
An agreement reached at the NATO summit in Madrid in June allowed Sweden and Finland’s membership bids to move ahead. But Turkey refused to ratify the bids and its position has changed little since then.
An Islamist non-secular country does not belong in NATO
Everyone should be able to see this and get an idea of what Greece has been going through for decades having such a lovely neighbor by our side and in the same military alliance. And before anyone jumps to conclusions that it’s bad erdogan’s fault I’d like to state that Turkey is the problem here. Not Erdogan. Many in the opposition also want to attack Greece as they believe the Aegean islands are rightfully theirs. Turkey must be permanently kicked out of NATO once and for all and be deemed an enemy country by all democracies around the world.
We dont. We also dont expect Finland to wait on us for much longer either. They have already done more than enough to show solidarity with us. Then again its unlikely Erdogan will give an inch so they are probably stuck with us.
We do however increasingly expect the other NATO countries to step up their efforts in pressuring the turks, especially if things are not straightened out by the election.
Judging by the recent US moves, is going to start to happen more and more.

Erdogan’s always been Putin’s friend. All of those demands for Sweden and Finland to receive the holy blessing of dictator Erdogan are just excuses to satisfy his good friend Putin.
As it’s impossible to kick them out of NATO, we have here a great occasion to build a European defence between the EU, ETA-countries and the UK. And of course, the EU freezes (unfortunately there’s no possibility to stop them for good) the EU- adhesion negotiations with Turkey. Let’s dream…

Luckily he will likely go looking at Turkey opinion polls. Hopefully one of the CHP candidates can oust him (which is the most likely scenario).

No one expects anything from Turkey’s current dictatorship. I’m not sure where Erdogan comes up with his self importance but history sure doesn’t support it.
Sweden and Swedish people should just stop doing anything for 4 months.
If Sweden caves in and apologizes people will go and talk about the legendary leader Sultan Erdoğan the first who made Sweden kneel before him after refusing their entry.
If Swedish people start protesting he’ll use that to say: “Look my supporters, you see these terrorists. Europe loves terrorists and only I can stop them from dividing our lands.”
