There’s something so eerie about walking at night in winter when the city is empty from Finland

  1. Coming from America, I went through Helsinki to get to Lappeenranta where I stayed for a week. It was snowing in Finland as it was where I came from, so in Lapp. I felt pretty at home there.

It was Helsinki that was so unnerving…I’m used to a variety of often loud sounds in the U.S. so when I went walking through the streets of Helsinki and could fucking whisper to my sister I was both unnerved and very pleased. It’s so calming over there at times.

  2. It’s not empty. There is something called porilainen watching you. Its silently memorising all the mistakes you make in order to share them in a ritual called “kahvitauko” on the next working day.

It is virtually impossible to spot them in their natural habitat.

  3. Fun fact: That intersection was the busiest intersection in Pori, that’s why it had the traffic lights first

  4. I mean, this is just how an average Pori person walks regardless of the time of day or amount of traffic
