This is a document that belonged to my Polish grandfather. Could someone please explain to me what it is and what it says? I would be very grateful <3

  1. It is an id card for polish equivalent of IRS from 1945

  2. His title was secretary administrator of IRS in Gdańsk

  3. * Ob. = obywatel = citizen.
    * Starostwo pow. = starostwo powiatowe = place of executive office for administration area called “Powiat Brzeziński” in “Łódzkie” voivodeship (larger administration area accumulating several powiat areas).
    * It is likely information copied from your grandfather’s personal ID that was acquired in mentioned office.
    * Tomaszów Mazowiecki (your grandfather’s birthplace) appears to be part of this administration area (here’s [map from that time](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/96/RzeczpospolitaPolska1939.png) – look at area roughly on the left side of country), so your grandfather might still live in mentioned city/area when he got the ID (if such things were the same back then, it was a personal ID acquired at age of 18 years old).
    * [Here](https://fotopolska.eu/zdjecia/m10055,Tomaszow_Mazowiecki.html?zakres=4&zdjeciaOd=1923&zdjeciaDo=1945) are photos of Tomaszów Mazowiecki from the time when your grandfather could be there.

    * Finally, this is birthplace and current locations of both offices on [Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/97-200+Tomasz%C3%B3w+Mazowiecki/Starostwo+Powiatowe+%252F+Urz%C4%85d+Miasta+%252F+Urz%C4%85d+Skarbowy+w+Brzezinach,+Henryka+Sienkiewicza+16,+95-060+Brzeziny/Pierwszy+Urz%C4%85d+Skarbowy+w+Gda%C5%84sku,+Rze%C5%BAnicka,+Gda%C5%84sk/).

  4. I’m I the only one triggered that they used Roman numerals and Arabic numerals for months both in the same document?

  5. It’s a personnel identity card of the Polish Tax Office in Gdańsk. Your grandfather was a secretary-administrator of the First Tax Office in Gdańsk. Zbigniew Kazimierz Szulc born on August 19th, 1923 in [Tomaszów Mazowiecki](https://goo.gl/maps/SsNcMHKehehyU7bm6). The ID was issued on June 22nd, 1945 and expired on December 31st, 1945. The other side has sections for extending the validity of the ID card, but, as you can see, they’re empty.

  6. He worked for dark side. Irs. That’s all you need to know.

  7. If you have his name, date and place of birth you can try to find your grandpa in church books. Assuming he was Christian (Catholic or Protestant). In church books you can find a lot of stuff. IDK if Jews were also gathering such records, and if yes they may be destroyed during war.
