Russia told to pay compensation to woman whose hands were cut off

  1. More importantly, this is not a regular ECHR ruling, this is the first ever *pilot judgement* on domestic violence by ECHR, which means that ECHR officially recognizes this as a systemic problem in Russia and will give special priority and much faster processing to all similar cases in the future until Russia does something to solve it.

I hope this finally leads to the adoption of the domestic violence law which seems to be stuck in the Duma since 2019 despite all their promises.

  2. For those without the stomach to read the article.

Basically her ex-husband accused her of cheating then drove her out to a forest and chopped both her hands of with an axe.

Her ex-husband has since been jailed for 14years and people around the world have donated about $65k to the victim. She had her left hand reattached and an expensive German bionic hand replacing the right.

Before the incident she did initially report her husband for beating her and holding a knife to her throat but the police failed to act.
