much less care what he has to say, he’s a wannabe tory
Islam’s question (which the Beeb have helpfully edited out)
>Do you have some… some regrets perhaps over how that process transpired? Were you maybe did you overplay your hand?
Like the DUP being useful idiots for the ERG Tories, Leo is now positioning himself as the fall-guy for any blame for when the UVF Jeffrey and co don’t accept an amended protocol. What a complete lack of leadership and statesmanship this man has.
The protocol isn’t a devolved matter, and was negotiated by the Tories. Of course there should have been input from politicians from NI when negotiating the deal, but that means members of all parties, and currently a majority of those parties are happy with the deal.
While it’s positive that Leo is offering a conciliatory tone to unionists, he has painted himself into a corner by accepting blame on behalf of the British, and it’s not going to end well.
Hi everyone, it’s your old friend Mr Context!
*”In the same way Brexit was imposed on Northern Ireland without the support of both communities, the protocol was imposed on Northern Ireland without the support of two communities,” he said, laying some blame on the fact Northern Ireland’s government “was not functioning”.*
*But Mr Varadkar said the protocol was working economically and that the absence of a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic was proof of this.*
It’s not a regret for anything he has done, it is regret that they had to do it.
