UK Labour leader Starmer slams PM’s Davos no-show, touts new ‘inverse OPEC’ alliance

  1. Starmer has some nerve complaining about Sunak focusing at home rather than swaning off to the billionaires party. Ridiculous

  2. > British Business and Energy Minister Grant Shapps is in the Swiss Alps in Sunak’s absence, and told CNBC on Thursday that it was appropriate that he attend, as his role in government is to secure business investment and jobs for the U.K.

While better than nothing, Sunak would have more impact when it comes to making deals than Shapps would. How many people there know who Shapps is? It may be his job to secure investment but Sunak is easy to spot in the crowd and that will get important people’s attention more than a Cabinet minister. Shapps also hardly has a great track record on competence, so he is likely out of his depth here to begin with.
