How can one whole country be responsible for decision of one man to tear the book up?
No wonder Turkish economy is in shambles when the turkish leadership is busy crying over anti religious protests in foreign countries.
“Turkey has summoned the Dutch ambassador over a recent protest with the Koran in The Hague.
“We condemn and protest this heinous and despicable act,” Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
T**he turkish authorities demand that the Netherlands ban such “provocative actions.”**
The Ministry also referred to a Koran burning by right-wing extremists in Sweden last week.
These hate crimes insult Turkey’s “sacred values,” the Ministry said. “This makes clear that Islamophobia, discrimination, and xenophobia know no borders in Europe.”
Aka, Erdogan being a whiny angry old man after Europe is rightfully responding to his political blackmail during a worldwide crisis.
It is perfectly legal for me to tear up or burn or destroy any book I want to in my country, doesn’t mean I would but fuck someone telling me I can’t.
yet on the other end of the scale turkey is ok with a million muslim uyghurs in concentration camps in China….
We should all collectively tear up Qurans across Europe. It will be hilarious to see the Turks summon all ambassadors at the same time.
This again???
Luckily we are already in NATO….
is this a stunt? or does the Turkish gov see the world through the lense of authoritarianism and expect we would do the same?
Dutch ambassador should just give Turkey the torn up Koran, a roll of scotch tape, and a diplomatic note that says, “Have at it.”
Can’t they just print a new one?
Turkey protecting minorities from right wing waves.
Based.
It starts with burning important books, then election of xenophobic parties then discriminatory laws and then what? concentration camps? Lol in Europe history always repeats itself.
Ataturk is spinning in his grave so hard right now that if we hook him up to a generator we could instantly solve the energy crisis.
Lmao this is getting ridiculous
Not gonna lie, if I was a turk I’d be so ashamed of my government right now. Grown ass men behaving like this? Getting 100% baited by trolls. It’s pathetic.
Yet another poor diplomat having to explain, and fail, what freedom of expression is.
Does Erdo know that the Netherlands is already a NATO member?
I am not sure why the Turkish government thinks they are responsible for every Koran on earth. I mean per Erdogan’s request they turn Hagia Sophia into a mosque that is sacred to Orthodox Christians, on the other hand, Turkey does not even have official religion which Ataturk knew that could be taken advantage of like today.
I don’t get it, since when has an entire country become responsible for the actions of an individual or a small group of individuals?
I mean they have said over and over again, and they were right by all means, that the actions of terrorist groups are not representative of an entire religion and or population. How can he say thatvthe actions of two people are representative for all Europe?
All of a sudden that is not valid anymore? What next, we go back to the middle ages and start a religious war? 🤦
Turkey used to be a secular country, then Erdodictator happened.
Oh dear, are they going to start smashing oranges in the street again?
Was it like a feat of strength? Phone books is the classic, but they’re more scarce these days.
Is turkey *trying* to look pathetic?
My intrusive thoughts urge me to tear up a Quran in a public space just to spite these assholes.
Looks like Erdogan sees himself not only as Sultan, but as Caliph as well.
