Amazon is closing its AmazonSmile charity platform

  1. It’s been going a few years here. I was signed up to cancer research. Whatever Amazon say the reasons why they are shutting it down, they are lies. They are cost saving which is clear by how many warehouses they are closing down.

  2. This is a bit disappointing; I’ve been able to give to the Marine Conservation Society without even noticing, and without them ever getting in touch with me. One thing I’ve found annoying about directly giving to charities is the way they freely disregard the “please don’t contact me and ask for more” option.

  3. This is the reason I manage to morally justify using Amazon. Let’s see if I actually change habits because of this though..

  4. I’m disappointed about this. I volunteer at a small charity and have donated to it via Amazon Smile for some time, told some of my colleagues there who hadn’t heard of it so now all our Amazon purchases have contributed, at no expense to us and with no trouble.

  5. If they were serious about the scheme, it would have simply been a default part of buying through Amazon. A percentage to the charity of your choice, right through the main page. Needing to use Amazon through a separate URL and pretty much never telling anyone about it is a great way to engineer ‘failing to reach ambitions’.
