  1. Odd. I heard yesterday that the hospitality business was desperate to see refugees turfed out er moved on because the beds would be needed.

  2. Have they considered dropping their prices? Why would someone pay €300-€400 a night to stay in Killarney when you’ll stay in a decent hotel in Spain or Italy for €150-€200. Greed is ruining the tourist industry.

  3. The dollar is still strong against the Euro and has made inflation a moot point for most US vacationers.
Wedding venue hotels are doing really well because of the pandemic wedding backlog.
Anyway…my thoughts working in the industry.

  4. And DCC in favour of a 1% “city tax” … load of bollox. Is the answer to everything to tax the bejaysus out of it?

  5. God love the poor souls. Somebody, please think of these poor hoteliers. Nobody wants to play with them anymore

  6. hotel prices are too high… public transport is practically non existent compared to other countries the price for food and drinks is too high mostly due to taxes …. the irish government is so busy trying to appease tax free multinational companies they dont seem to prioritize that flies into the country and hires staff who pay taxes which are not tax free
i dont live in ireland anymore and people i know wanted to visit ireland but when they saw the prices it was too unrealistic … ireland has always been a place many want to visit …. lets not even get started on the BS opening hours for clubs etc … why would you fly over to pay x the price for drinks only to be turfed out at 2/3am its shocking

  7. Hotels in Ireland are an absolutely insane rip off. They’re doing just fine though – they got massive government subsidies during covid and they are all full of refugees at the moment.

Personally I have zero sympathy and think this bullshit should be ignored and they should reinstate VAT

  8. All inclusive in a good hotel in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria €220 a night including flights for 3 of us and I night no breakfast about €250 here

  9. I spent less than a grand for a full month and a bit travelling in 4 star hotels in Vietnam last year. At one point that was the price for 4 nights in Dublin (€1012). It may be unfair to compare, but it was such a gulf in the experience you get for the cost you pay.

  10. Overcharging, shit service, treated staff like crap for years. Where is their change, their want to make it better for the staff and customers?

  11. Turns out there isn’t an endless supply of tourists willing to pay insane room rates. Car rentals have also gone insanely high (atleast it was last year when I last checked) and most tourists rely on these too.

  12. maybe if a hotel room for a weekened in ireland wasn’t as expensive as 4 day trip to Rome then they wouldn’t be having issues.
