  2. We need an emergency meeting for the 48 women that died at the hands of their partners in 2022 but not for the 4000 that committed suicide in the same timeframe. Of which 3/4ths are men.

Although sexism is part of the first problem, both cases heavily stem from mental health issues that are not being put under the spotlight. Treating it like an exclusively sexist problem is misguided.

  3. Let’s remember that this is the same government that deliberately released a lot of rapists from prison.

All the measures they take are intended not to lower deaths, they just pretend they are doing something to get votes from “smart” people.

  4. Let’s not fprget that half the Spanish Parliament thinks women are exaggerating and there’s no issue with gender violence

  5. It is pretty funny to see how the same that are calling for “emergency meetings” (Both political parties, PSOE and Podemos) are allowing jailed rapist to leave the prison earlier, what a sad country.

This article only refers to 14 sentences for sexual abuse reduced, is pretty old, currently there are more than 200 rapist who have seen their sentence reduced, many are already on the streets.

~~And this make me think…. Spain is one of the most secure countries for woman out there, seeing this, anyone would think that they are deliberately releasing rapists to justify their monstrous spending of public money on feminist laws, if you want to convince your voters that a security problem for women exist in spain, you need more victims of sexual abuse, right? it’s quite simple.~~

  6. Maybe the most productive measure a government can take in such emergency (perhaps if it’s an actual emergency is subject to debate) meeting is increase spending in physical protection of the victims, in any form that can be delivered to them.

Do you think that such measures would incentivize dependence and over-reliance on government-granted benefits?

I can’t help but think any piece of news that involves government is propaganda, pushed either for or against the current cabinet.

  7. The Spanish government decided time ago to make this the biggest, most pressing and most important issue of our time. Every day there is a man-on-woman murder, that’s the first and foremost piece of news with ample coverage. And while it is certainly important, sometimes I question if this strategy is any good.

We are sending the wrong message that Spain is an unsafe country for women, when it is actually one of the safest in the world. And at the same time, this communication strategy doesn’t seem to have any positive impact on the statistic.

  8. In 2021 there were 3182 men and 5058 women victims of DV in Spain according to the INE (Spanish statistics national institute).

It is terrible and I wish measures are taken to reduce it.

  9. Jfc people, just take a look at yourselves. How is trying to avoid murders a thing that merits debate? “But what about the men?” “Other places murder more women!”. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Progress in gender equality in Spain since 2010

With 73.7 out of 100 points, Spain ranks 6th in the EU on the Gender Equality Index. Its score is 5.7 points above the EU’s score. Since 2010, Spain’s score has increased by 7.3 points and its ranking has improved by one place. Since 2018, Spain’s score has increased by 1.7 points, mostly driven by improvements in the domain of power. The country’s ranking has improved by one place.

    Best Performance

Spain scores 76.9 points in the domain of power, which is among the highest scores in the EU (ranking 3rd). This performance is mainly driven by nearly gender-balanced decision-making in the political sphere.

    Most room for improvement

Gender inequality is most pronounced in the domain of time (64.0 points), in which Spain scores almost one point below the EU’s score (ranking 14th). This is due to persistent gender inequality in the time spent on care work and housework.

    Biggest improvement

With 76.9 points, Spain’s score has improved the most in the domain of power (+ 24.3 points) since 2010, increasing its ranking by two places. In particular, improvements in economic decision-making have powered this change, with an increase in score from 33.3 points in 2010 to 70.1 points in 2019.

    A step backwards

Since 2010, Spain’s scores have shown little progress in the domains of work (+ 1.9 points) and money (+ 1.3 points). As a result, Spain’s ranking in both domains has dropped by one place since 2010.

  11. I am afraid they will just make a new law, like the last one, where just with the accusation of violence, even without any proof, the custody will go to the mother, and the judge can’t decide a thing, till the end of the trial, which can take up to two years.

  12. We need to take a deep look of the root of the problem: women get so often attracted to agressive/violent douchebags. That should stop happening

  13. Friendly reminder that the woman in the picture has actually passed a law that has allowed rapists/child molesters to get out of prison waaay sooner than expected just because. She is not popular. Irene Montero is her name.
