Her points make sense if you actually consider what she has said. That she is supposed by children given a smartphone with unlimited access to the Internet.
The key point unlimited access.
The Internet has so much good use but much like any tool it can have bad uses. For a child who hasn’t learnt to differentiate, unlimited, unrestricted access is a bad idea and controls and limits do need to be set
She has a point: it’s an on-going nightmare at school. Since Christmas, all my behaviour issues have been sorting out problems involving the children’s online behaviour at home. Despite trying to educate parents, the kids are able to see inappropriate material, repeatedly insult each other using obscene language and some have been on the receiving end of racism. This is at primary level.
Imo as a society we need to have kids not growing up without phones or ipads, as someone who’s generation was the first to grow up with it I’ve seen how it makes people more socially awkward, the effects social media has on young girls, how easily accessible porn is to young lads and just generally their attention span worsens.
The same parents will say they don’t have enough money to feed their kids
Priorities people!
I used to teach and plenty of young kids (as in below ten) use social media and are on YouTube all the time once they get home. Social media is bad for adults, let alone teenagers; it must be even more damaging to those who brains are developing at the rate young children’s are. We all know kids use smartphones and tablets, however we need to be honest about how damaging that could be. I know some people think it is wrong to monitor their kid’s internet activity, however the internet has changed a lot since I was a teenager in the 00s. Kids risk being exposed to harmful content so much more easily nowadays and that means we need to treat the internet differently.
Next, ofgem boss surprised at British homes don’t use heaters in winter months. Homes must be energy efficient.
