I used the Dublin Bikes stand nearby and often wondered about it.
Just finished reading the Wiki article. The news of the capsizing is already there.
I think that puts to bed any notions people had of converting it to a hotel.
Such a shame
I’m disgusted that Dublin City council did nothing with grand canal docks, or with the Naoimh Eanna when they had the chance. They have 3 lock gates that could be restored and automated by waterways ireland- like every other lock on the grand/royal canals. GCD has also got 2 full graving docks for doing work on boats large and small (the middle one is where the Naoimh Eanna is). Like ffs, put a public Marina into GCD and incorporate the graving docks. Make it a maritime centre in the middle of the city. People from town around dublin county and beyond would be throwing money at DCC to have a mooring in the middle of Dublin and in silicone docks no less. If you want to see what it could be like, look at [St Katherine’s Docks](https://www.skdocks.co.uk/) in London.
The ideas of converting it to something else were always fantasy. I know people involved in the process of moving it to it’s current location and it was coming apart at the rivets. Should have been scrapped years ago. Saving ships like this is a nice idea, but when it would cost millions and deliver questionable tourism benefit you have to make a better call.
