Romania and Bulgaria agree to build two hydropower plants on Danube

  1. Romania has one very big hydro plant with Serbia on the Danube, it’s called the Iron Gates. It’s actually a massive supplier of energy for both countries.

If there’s a feasibility study already done, it seems like this is not just an idea and a real project. Very likely it’s eligible for EU financing as well, given how we’re pushing for green energy and this would be a massive project to that goal. While I’m skeptical, this is quite positive.

Another fun note, Romania is looking to resume an old crazy Danube project. Bucharest, which is an inland city, but has two ports. That is because the plan had been to build a canal that connects the Danube with the city. In fact 80% of it is done but in a very poor state as it was just abandoned after the revolution. The project is now looking to be resumed :

    Again, I’m skeptical but optimistic.
