>Of the UK/UK operating companies investigated, Luton-based TUI Musement, Berlin-headquartered GetYourGuide, Singaporian Trip.com, London-based AttractionTickets.com and Jet2holidays were all highlighted as falling short of WAP’s standards, despite the report showing that 84 per cent of UK citizens believe that tour operators should not sell activities that cause wild animals suffering.
>World Animal Protection then checked to see if they offered any of the following five “animal attractions”:
> * Elephant rides, feeding and washing
> * Feeding or petting primates
> * Selfies, shows, petting or walking with big cats
> * Swimming with captive dolphins and dolphin shows
> * The sale of any interactive “experiences” involving any captive wild animals (including for example sea lions, crocodiles and alligators)
I wish more people knew that all these elephant activities (most egregious are the baby elephant cuddling) involve abusing elephants until their spirits break.
The best, most animal-friendly way to view wildlife is from a good distance.
So, hammering us at every opportunity with Jess Glynne is the least of their poor behaviour.
Which they will keep doing until the public turn against them completely. The fact is that people want to get close to wild animals and these shows offer them the chance to get a selfie with a tiger or elephant. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, however people would rather have that than have principles that they stick to. Everyone is against animal cruelty until it inconveniences them in some way, this includes animals as entertainment.
