> “Both Tilley brothers appealed their sentence and at the Royal Courts of Justice on Tuesday 17 January, it was agreed the previous sentences issued were “manifestly excessive” and did not give a sufficient reduction for the boys’ young age and immaturity.

Sounds like a reason to update the guidelines, not to release these little cunts any earlier. There’s no mention or indication they were remorseful during or since, just that they should’ve been given a break for being kids.
“bound by guidelines” is an oxymoron, right?
Either way, it’s a bloody joke.
Mr and Mrs Tilley (if both are still around in the kids’ lives) should face some sort of legal repercussions for raising such little shits honestly and letting this happen. It’s not unreasonable for parents to be expected to know if their 14 year old son is capable of beating the shit out of a stranger with a log.

Might be an unpopular opinion but there should be tougher sentencing for teenagers who commit violent crime.
It isn’t manifested immaturity, it’s induced psychosis from a number of factors.
People may not want to acknowledge this. But kids like these don’t come from stable households or low crime areas. It’s a mindset born from living in a world of violence.
The reason I’d call for harsher sentencing is because ,as a society, we are unwilling to fix the core causes of the issue. So the best course of action is to lock them up for a while.
Archie didn’t get extra time for years of stealing his brother’s dinner?
Guidelines are just a guide. Lock these fuckers up until they are decrepit.
6½ years custody for this seems a disgrace in leniency to me.
Then again, I find our sentencing to be too lenient in general…
Bring back the death sentence and make an example of the sawn off shits
Just another reason why this country is a shithole
Hm, this is a tricky one.
I have no doubt that the appeal court followed the letter of the law. (But it makes you wonder why the original court didn’t…)
That being said, if these guys have no remorse, how can you release them at all? Shouldn’t they be locked up in a secure facility unless they are no longer a danger to society? How are they going to respond the next time anybody challenges them for their bad behaviour?
Maybe they will grow up and become reasonable adults, but I think the chances of that in prison are pretty slim.
This country is getting softer every day that goes by. You can understand why people are scared to leave the house when they know that if they are attacked, stabbed or left brain dead, the attackers get off lightly 9 times out of 10.
There a video of him talking before and after the attack, it’s heartbreaking
Yes? Is the victim going to be having his “sentence’ cut short? Are these two fucks going to pay for their victim care? Of course not. Looking at how this country’s going I’m more and more inclined to just fuck off to Netherlands
It’s annoying but it is also legally justified, which would suggest that we need to update our sentencing guidelines soon. It is not just here that we see issues with sentencing guidelines and you see public outcry over what people consider lenient sentencing. Motor crime is a particular area where sentencing guidelines fall far short of what seems reasonable to the public. With violent offenders serving what seems to be a much shorter sentence than is warranted in severe cases like this, it only seems just to at least review the guidelines, if not alter them altogether. Some might argue that is not fair for the offenders but short sentences also do nothing to protect the public from violent offenders. Justice should work both ways.
When this country took weapons away, they did not disarm criminals, they disarmed people who are trying to get by.
Being young is no excuse for a crime this serious. When kids do something that has life altering consequences on another person, they should be tried as an adult
Why???? Scum like this should be locked up for life, or better yet lined up in front of a firing squad. If they were teenagers when they did this they were more than aware of what they were doing. I don’t care that they are young, any sane decent person knows not to assault people by the age of like 6 at the very latest, or at least I certainly did. Or maybe I’m the odd one, idk. This is why criminals run wild in this country, because they know that the police probably won’t show up for a start, and then if they do get caught they’ll just get a slap on the wrist anyway. This is disgusting, an innocent person has had they’re life irreversibly damaged, and these cunts will be out in a few years.
Disgusting, should have been made longer. Enough with this slap on the wrist bullshit.
You can always take the law into your own hands if you are offended enough.
They’re showing their images? Have the rules changed, even though they’re under 18? Was it ever the law or just convention?
