“The Government should prepare for more than 80,000 more migrants to seek refuge in Ireland this year, according to the newly-appointed Minister for Integration Joe O’Brien.”
It should be noted that they mean migrants seeking refuge, so this would be on top of other migrants.
Is this really sustainable when a war of attrition in Ukraine could go on for literally years? If we maintain this level of refugee intake, and with our non existent deportation enforcement, coupled with our government decision to declare migrant amnesty anyway to those who entered on false pretences…..thats several hundred thousand people in just the next few years alone.
With a population of only 5million, does nobody else see that this level of intake is going to drastically alter the demographics of this country? 10 years of this will have nearly 1/6 people in Ireland be a refugee…how is this in any way sustainable?
Should plan? They don’t have the best reputation for planning
I went to Albania for a week near end of 2022 . Beautiful country and people . Very poor . Huge unemployment and low wages . Most of young men we spoke with wanted to leave , for Europe . Purely economic reasons . They claim asylum because that’s how the system works . I don’t blame them .
Agh yeah sure there’s loads of room here not like we live in a time with high levels of homelessness , where young people can’t even buy their own homes and where all the talented workforce will migrate abroad to find better livings. Can’t wait to see the future Ireland 😅
The government needs to start building vertically. Enough of these €200k+ family homes. In the space you build 10 houses you could put up enough apartments for 360 families instead.
Where are they going to live? Ireland can’t house the people already here. Typical lack of planning.
A disaster in the making. What sort of idiots want to take 80k people when we have no houses? Irish families left in shot but these come in and get everything handed to them. Joke.
Guys dont worry, Tristan who now lives in Austrialla and comes back to visit mummy and daddy in Dalkey twice a year says all refugees are welcome. So theres nothing to worry about.
How about building some houses first…
People here talking about housing but also forgetting the strain this will cause our health service as well. We do not have the capacity to keep taking people in
We literally cannot provide shelter to those we’ve already taken in never mind our own population…… I’m all for helping people but we clearly do not have the capacity to take in another 80000
The government needs to go, new leadership is needed that can sort this mess out, make it tougher for so many to pour into the place.
He couldn’t give a straight and satisfactory answer on primetime last night when asked what are the plans to accommodate those already here who are temporarily staying in hotels. Where is he going to put another 80k?
Plan? That’ll be a first.
We need to vote these dangerous lunatics out.
This isn’t going to go down well lads
160,000 people added to a population of 5 million in 24 months is quite the percentage increase.
Even with the means and motivation to help increase the supply of homes in Ireland, any government policy will take years to show the benefits.
80000+ is way way too many migrants for a country of this size to be let in a year.
It shouldn’t the case that applying for asylum is the easiest way to get residence.
They should plan for 800 max
This will end well
It’s not even housing our medical system will collapse under the strain.
We need a referendum on such a huge decision like this, the cultural fabric of Ireland will be changed forever as a result of this
They are saying they are putting the adults out on the street at the moment.
This is getting a bit fucked up no?
Have these past few weeks been lost in translation somewhere?
Health service is on its knees and we need to prepare for 80000 more people! This was completely tone deaf and the timing just awful.
I don’t remember voting for this.
2015 to 2020 immigration was more than 100k.
The government this year is planning for 80k. I am sorry, they are just incompetent.
A third world shit hole must be the government’s directive plan
How equally distributed are refugees/illegal migrants.
Are they all getting put in lower class areas and country towns
or are affluent areas taking their fair share?
I’ve been fairly in favour us taking in ukranian refugees, but I have to admit 40 thousand was already far too many… They want to triple that number now?
I’m going to repeat the populist mantra, even if I don’t particularly like it. Are they expected to be housed during an existing shortage over citizens of the country?
How much more out of touch are these people?
> The Dublin Fingal TD said he does not think immigration will become as much of a contentious and divisive issue as it has been in the UK.
I don’t think the gulf between how the political class view the world and how the citizens view the world has ever been so wide.
They seem to live in fantasy land where problems don’t exist. A land where we are all arm-in-arm skipping through the meadows on our way to the progressive multicultural paradise that our leaders have designed for us.
Live in a small summer seaside town in the west. During the winter the pop is around 2000, there’s approx 500 ukranians in the town currently. The schools and Dr’s are wedged, haven’t been able to get a Dr’s appt for months for a routine blood pressure , anyone wanting to rent locally can’t, it’s all a bit of a shambles. It’s not their fault, there simply hasn’t been any extra services put in to support them.
