John Yems: Anger over calling manager “not conscious racist”

  1. > In its report published on Tuesday, the panel found Yems used a racial slur to describe some of the club’s black players, deliberately mispronounced a name to make it sound like a racially offensive term and joked that a Muslim player was a terrorist.

Yeah… how is that “not conscious”, exactly? Was he hypnotised??

  2. Sounds like most of what he said was just bad humour. I see there’s a hint that he told a black player who’d returned from a holiday that he had a good tan, or something along those lines, and it seems most of it was said in jest. Hardly the worst thing in the world, really.

I have to wonder whether people have simply taken advantage of Yems’ whiteness to try to make a bit of cash. I certainly don’t see many people up in arms about Rio Ferdinand being a well-paid pundit, even though he has a history of using racial slurs against black people.
