  1. These ppl have no plan, it’s going to be the usual shitshow where the usual crowd will make a fortune off the backs of the tax payers,They’re building 30 modular homes in Cavan at roughly €280000 each

  2. Of course it wasn’t. Yet they were happy to grandstand about it.
    Gobshites.
Time to pop them in the merrion and shelbourne. Anywhere there’s room. not out of sight and at prey to idiots. Pop them in city center. D4. Let’s get the like and share brigade to join in.

  3. They did the same thing as with the HSE. Create a disaster, blame the gods/circumstances/vulnerable people, claim zero responsibility, then enact disastrous policies to further harm people.

  4. All I’m hearing is “we’re creating thousands places for people to live, this is new so we’re learning as we go”.

Just shows that we’re seen as just dirt on their shoe. Why wasn’t this done years and years ago for us to help the housing crisis?

  5. This guy is completely inept. Completely. No plan, no semblance of a plan.

We are careering head first into shanty town central and a humanitarian disaster, because of clowns like him.

  6. There were warnings. People have been signalling the alert for years on this issue. But were they listened to?
No, they were not listened to. They were called racists and fascists and were told that what they were saying was nonsense and that this trend of immigration would not harm Irish communities. Well look at the situation now! Is the government far-right now for saying what many people have been saying for fucking ages? And then, when the War started, we had no space and no saved resources for this kind of thing. We didn’t have any plan for a refugee influx but do you know what we did have? We had Roderic O’Gorman tweeting out in Urdu, Somali, Arabic Georgian and Albanian that we were planning to give own door accommodation to all asylum seekers after a few months. Our inept, shithead government couldn’t have exacerbated these problems in a worse way.

  7. Jesus this is frightening. One year ago we knew the amount of refugees coming into the country was going to be in excess of 40000. And only now are we “learning and planning to build a centre for only 2000 refugees.
How much notice do our politicians need to have foresight beyond their fucking nose!

  8. Are we not all onboard with the Nazification of Europe so that America can expand its military and sell fracked gas?

  9. I remember listening to an interview he gave months ago and thinking he hasn’t got a clue what he’s talking about. This was never sustainable. To be clear I’m all for refugees coming over, but some people clearly need to be held accountable if they’re fearing 1000s are going to be living on the streets. This is an utter shit show and he’s clearly doesn’t have the aptitude for such a position.

  10. I can’t believe I’m going to end up in a far right Europe because of incompetent people like this completely blowing it.

  11. The lack of available accommodation was discussed on drive time yesterday.

Go listen to the last 60 seconds of the podcast and see what we are dealing with.

  12. They need to start turning people away at the airport if they don’t have their document that they got on the plane with. That will take some pressure off, not enough but its start.

  13. Concerning. Its a mind fuck to me that they are still taking in people when they cant handle the ones they have. Sending people from all over the world empty handed into the streets just sounds like a really bad idea

  14. I’d give the shirt off my back to someone in need and I welcome the many fine new visitors to our country, but all my anger is squarely blamed on the government for dropping the biggest fucking ball ever. All they’ve done is made the already catastrophic housing and homelessness crisises far more worse again by several factors. Im fucking nearly 40, ive no home of my own, might finally have a place of my own when im 50 for a year or two before i drop dead from misery, despite years of saving and working, the price of housing is obscene. I’m still paying the fucking USC tax for bailing out those fucking slimey bankers 12 FUCKING YEARS LATER!

  15. Is it similar in other countries? Could there be some sort of Central European agency to distribute people to where places are available ?

  16. People were called racists for pointing out tye obvious fact that Ireland cant take these people in. Not because were dont want refugees, but because there just isnt anywhere to put them and theres already an incredible strain on public services as is.

  17. I’m all for providing support and refuge but when you can’t even provide enough housing to your own citizens effectively why on earth would you try accommodate others?

  18. Maybe when the Ukrainian war is over and some/most Ukrainian’s go home the government might actually use these homes to house our own people. Or is that too much to wish for.

  19. We’ve been very lucky that for years we have had aboslute twats representing the far right in Ireland.

All you need is one intelligent populist to capitalize on a government fuck-up and they’ll have people lining up to vote for them. Look at what’s happening all over Europe.

Looks like very shortly Ireland will be following in their footsteps.

  20. This topic is almost an impossible task, but I am constantly under whelmed, and frustrated at the absolute shit state of the calibre of our politicians- of all parties. There are a few (minority) across the parties who are capable , but I wouldn’t trust this guy to drive a bus, never mind be a junior minister. Appalling, the Green Party (perhaps wrong to single them out) do not have one single competent Minister

  21. Russia had already lined up front line infantry along the borders of Eastern Ukraine this time last year. EU government was suggesting infrastructure development.

  22. Why can’t we put them in tents or something? It’s a temporary solution for a temporary problem. If you give them all houses they’ll stay here. Nobody wants to go back to rubble.
