  1. > Under current legislation, people seeking to open a pub must buy an existing pub licence from an established publican.

    This seems backward as fuck.

    > However, the proposed legislation will allow for anyone to purchase a licence.

Oh no, how terrible. Equal opportunity? The Vintners hate this!

  2. >“Any new licences sought will be in areas of higher demand – cities, provincial towns, tourist locations. Who wants more pubs in these areas?” O’Keeffe said

So, we should only have pubs where there’s no demand for them?

Does he actually realise how fucking stupid he sounds saying that?

  3. Fantatstic news, the publicans are the biggest shower of crooks going. Charging €6, €7 plus in Dublin for filling up a glass with some beer? Get fucked, people are sick to death of being ripped off by them so I gladly welcome the chains so I can enjoy a few pints at the weekend without having to break the bank.

  4. As someone who’s lived in the UK previously, Can you explain to me what “UK-style pub culture” is and how it differs from what we have here already?

  5. This is great news IMO. Pubs have gouged the absolute fuck out of people forever and the vintners association are a nasty bunch of cunts.

More competition is always a good thing.

  6. Irish alcohol licensing laws are completely backward. For a country known for it’s “good craic” and drinking, in reality it’s quite the opposite to this. I wrote a piece on this on my Substack “Geopolitical Irish Lad” called “Half-measured reform” where I pick apart these recently announced “reforms”

  7. Good. More competition but I dont think it will change too much.
