  1. “Mr Titford appeared in the dock, wearing a black puffer jacket as he listened to proceedings.” Thank god the news covered his attire as well!

  2. It’s neglect, pure and simple. A 16 year old gets to be so fat it kills them due to poor parenting and the parents should be held accountable. It really is no different to starving a child tbh.

  3. >It is alleged that, between March 24 and October 11, 2020, he failed to ensure Kaylea’s dietary needs were met, leading to morbid obesity. He is further accused of failing to ensure she got enough exercise, was in a hygienic condition and had a safe and clean living environment.

So, basically during Lockdown, and a time when people were maybe playing it safe and still staying home after restrictions had eased.

As she was 16, I assume she was then outside of any safeguarding or monitoring by her school during that time – but what about the 4 or 5 years *before* that?

Can you become *that* obese in just 6 or 7 months though?

  4. It’s an unpopular opinion but imo allowing your child to become obese is a form of object child abuse.

A lot of people will draw comparisons to children suffering from anorexia nervosa and make the argument that parents could be prosecuted for their child secretly participating in extreme diets, but the comparison ends at the fact that, barring hospitalisation, you cannot physically force your child to eat. As the parental figure though you do ultimately control what sort of foods and how much of it is coming into the household.

Childhood obesity is an abhorrent condition and sets individuals up for all sorts of issues later on, from hormonal imbalance to infertility, to cosmetic issues such as stretchmarks and loose skin, not to mention the social isolation, as well as the difficulties they’ll inevitably experiencing advancing professional. It limits dating opportunities, restricts them from participating in physical activities, and induces all sorts of mental despair. The host of longterm health issues they will suffer from in late adulthood is no joke as well.

Obesity is literally one of the worst things you can subject your body to, and gravity does not fuck around and you’ll end up with bones like breadsticks come your 50’s.

  5. Sounds more like he’s being accused of child neglect than letting his daughter become obese. I imagine it would be very hard to eat yourself to death by the age of 16, there must have been underlying health conditions that weren’t addressed, perhaps exacerbated by her being overweight.

The accusations of not providing a safe and hygienic living environment are particularly damning. There’s only so much influence he could have over his daughters diet but if she was living in conditions that were so bad they were deemed unsafe, that’s on him.

  6. Terribly misleading headline. She died on incontinence pads used to suck up the fluids as she rotted alive. Obesity was a small part of the story.

  7. Why did this start in the lockdown though? I can only presume that the parents struggled to cope after their usual community nurse or carers etc was withdrawn.
