Covid omicron news: Latest updates as Boris Johnson urges caution on Christmas plans

  1. The 2 weeks of getting caught out lying about parties won’t help people be cautious about their plans let’s be honest, everyone is going to do what they’ve already planned.

Hard to take their advice seriously when they don’t.

  2. I’ve got to be honest … and I only speak for me and the area I’m in… but, we literally don’t care anymore, life goes on – 55 million die a year globally (of which people knowingly contribute to a % of death) – we can’t keep sacrificing our futures to keep going around in circles, the virus may kill people.. but if you flatline the economy completely… we’ll all die.

  3. COBRA meeting ongoing. Rumours flying around already, but my guess is they will agree more restrictions to be implemented piecemeal based on devolved competencies.

The most extreme rumour I’ve seen is another full UK lockdown starting January 5th, which sounds like shite because a) that’s far too late b) a Wednesday and c) lots of people just won’t bother.

Someone on Twitter claims that the Netherlands are now adjusting their restrictions and lenghtening the school break because they’ve been spooked by the numbers coming out of the UK and Norway.

  4. I’m quite surprised on how things are going and on how some people are commenting even here.

I do understand that the situation is quite difficult but that is a difficult time and I was actually expecting UK to reach a bit differently on this. To keep things a bit better at this stage is not expected to sacrifice a lot but just sit and think what is better to everyone and not just being selfish. Wear a mask in th tube for example, try to get tested (for free) before to meet someone, keep distances if possible and so on are so simple things to do that I’m very very surprised on how people are taking this as a threat to personal freedom and not just on a way to keep going together, no one is asking to don’t go to the pub or meet friends, just think before and try to reduce the risks I think is just reasonable.

This attitude is not driving anywhere we will keep fighting between us and against the virus. I’m very very surprised and quite disappointed, I was expecting UK to be more thoughtful and not that selfish.
