  1. > Gordon Sanders owns Runwood Homes, the UK’s sixth largest for-profit care home group, [having 60 homes for dementia patients] which charges residents more than £1,000 a week, with bills often covered by the taxpayer.

    > Directors’ salaries and dividends drawn from the company totalled £57m over five years.

    > There are 165,000 staff vacancies and rising in England’s care homes. That is equivalent to more than one in 10 posts unfilled.

    > Runwood bought many of its homes from local councils struggling to afford their operation including several from Essex county council in 2000, six from Nottinghamshire county council for £1.2m in 2011 and five from Doncaster council for £1.5m in 2012.

    > Care assistant jobs are currently being advertised by Runwood at £10 an hour – the same as a McDonald’s crew member.

  2. The worst bit is, the bastards who do things like this will never have to experience it in their old age, plenty of money to afford somewhere nice.

  3. I’m really not sure why anyone is surprised by this.

Private service providers only exist to make money. For profit health and welfare service provision is a mantra pushed by both the Tories and Labour at the moment. This has become our unopposed national policy.

  4. I work in care, it is honestly insulting. Most companies try to hide the cost of care from their staff, but we aren’t stupid. One if then charges 2k per week for a run that’s 1br with a living room and bathroom. Yet despite all these rooms being fillled, we weren’t well paid (I was a apprentice on 3.30 a hour.)

What do I have to show for that? Clinical depression with multiple suicide attempts. Fuck these people. I hope they lose it all

  5. Part of the reason the NHS is struggling is because care providers like this dick are hoarding profits and not putting the money paid into private care, back into the system. So we have hospitals overflowing with people ready to be discharged, but with no suitable care package.

Literally people are dying because of this ‘persons’ selfish greed.

  6. And they probably pay their carers minimal wage, are understaffed and feed their residents crap food made from awful cheap ingredients. While owners buy one care home after other. Ew. Awful. After 15 years working in many different settings of health and social care, I probably saw it all and couldn’t take it anymore

  7. Surprise surprise another one percenter get millions in a pay rise when everyone else is struggling/underpaid and the company is doing shit. Seems an all to familiar story now.

  8. Imagine paying yourself £21,000,000 whilst knowing your employees are getting a tenner an hour.

I used to wonder how these people sleep at night. But I’ve started to realise it’s because they just don’t give a solitary fuck about anyone else.

  9. Reading shit like this makes me wonder how I was ever pro-capitalist. I wish I could remember what the fuck was going through my head, absolute idiot

  10. Well gotta make sure he’s okay first and foremost yano?

Where do our priorities even lie if we don’t make sure rich people are given large amounts of cash before making sure luxuries like care homes are safe.

That’s not the UK I know.
