Hello r/Norway! I am an American who needs help understanding what I am seeing in a Norwegian Slow TV Documentary from 2012.

This is a video of the MS Victoria on the Telemark Canal in Norway. Why is this such a big deal?! There are hundreds of people all along the route who have come out to see this ship travel up the canal; and I have no idea why there are so many people that have come out to see it! Everyone seems so excited to see this ship. Can someone please help me understand why this is such a special occasion in Norway? Thank you! Signed a curious American.

  1. The TV version was broadcasted live on national television. The TV broadcast also had interviews with people both on board and at the various stops along the way.

Minute-by-minute is pretty much a yearly concept on norwegian television. During the summer viewers follow a long a ship, train or some other means of transport with that live broadcast during the day, and a talk show at the daily end-stop in the evening. This can go on for weeks during the time most norwegians have their summer vacation.

[You can find a highlight video of live TV-version of that section at NRK still to get a feel for it.](https://tv.nrk.no/serie/telemarkskanalen-minutt-for-minutt-tv/2012/DVFJ60002212/avspiller)
