Achelse Kluis verkocht aan ondernemer, bier mag niet langer trappist genoemd worden

  1. It will still be sold as an abbey ale.

Now to be completely honest, I can’t remember when I last drank an Achel, if I drank trappist I’m more of a Chimay, Rochefort, Orval (and La Trappe Quadruppel) person.

  2. As much as I love secularisation, it’s sad to see this beer selling it’s soul to the devil.

  3. Mainly sad to see the number of Belgian trappists going down, while globally the number goes up. Achel really isn’t that good though, so it’s not a loss to see this one lose the title specifically.

It’d be great to see a new trappist brewer to replace it.

  4. It will be interesting to see what will happen to the abbey buildings, besides the brasserie and brewery. There already was a plan to turn the former abbey shop into a visitor’s centre for the surrounding nature area (Groote Heide), in cooperation with the dutch municipalities across the border. But the oldest part of the abbey itself, dating back to the 18th century, is in a bad state 😔.

  5. This is what they should focus on when poeple say the belgian identity in under attack. We lost a trappist bier 🙁 I’ve always been so proud for us and our beer culture. Same with all the frietkotten near trainstations that are dissapearing. But people rather have zwartepiete discussion instead of ectuall discussions about are dissapearing heritage. i’m sad.
