Can anyone tell me if this is legit, I got a mole removed back in October and paid 560 to get it removed along with 120 follow up and 260 consultation and now I’m getting this shite 3 months later. Surely it was all covered in what I paid.

Maybe just ring them and ask?
Yep, it’s for the histology of the mole to see if it’s cancerous or not.
You’ve to pay for them looking at the actual mole and looking at the cells making up the mole.
Just make sure to claim your tax back against it all.
Tell them you can’t pay it and they’ll have to put it back on you…
It’s legit, they send your mole off to a lab to be tested for cancer. They won’t fuck off either. Best to just pay it, or it will come back around if you need anymore work done. Takes about 5 months to heal fully IIRC
Wouldn’t this be all covered under health insurance like VHI?
Holy moly
Meh, what are they gonna do, reattach it?
Not sure if it’s legit or not, but the HSE’s debt collection agency do not feck around
I forget who collects for them, but they’re relentless
“Please pay to find out if you will get cancer or not”
It’s definitely a real invoice anyway. I know because I got one from the same place for a few grand a year after having surgery because my insurance never settled the claim.
When I did this 2 years ago I paid everything when I went to the doctor office. I didn’t receive any follow up bills.
Sounds to me like you’ve paid the part covered by your insurance and now they’re asking you for the rest. If this is the case you just need to claim back from your insurance the bit they need to cover.
If that’s not the case a polite but firm letter explaining what you’ve paid and asking for a detailed explanation of all charges is the way to go.
Always send a letter like this by post and email if you can. The postal copy shows you mean business while the email copy gives you traceability for when the postal copy ‘never came’.
Copy the hospital or place you got it done also. Same postal/email approach.
What was the original reason for the mole removal? Did they think that it was a risk? From what you say you originally paid for the physical act of checking, removing and following up to make sure it was done properly. This bill is for the lab part. Checking to see if the mole was cancerous. This would be normal procedure if you had been told day one that the mole could potentially be an issue.
Why did you go private? I don’t have a medical card. I went to my GP last summer with a dodgy looking mole, from the GP visit to the removal to final outcome took under six weeks and all it cost was the initial €60 fee to see my GP.
Is this private or public? I had a lump removed and examined and never paid a Penney
You paid for the removal and associated visits. The bill seems to be testing mole for cancer etc. Free in the UK if you have a connection

So I got it done private because I am moving abroad so wanted it done sooner rather than later. I was happy to pay the initial costs but I thought the 560 covered everything from removal to testing and all that. Like 560 for 30 minutes work and another 120 for 2 minutes for her to give me results that could have been done over the phone. I have health insurance but it was new at the time so it counted as a pre existing condition so couldn’t apply for the mole removal but you can bet I’ll be trying to claim this part of it
Shame you dont live in the UK it would be free.
My mum and sister had skin cancer so have been getting all of mine removed over the last few years.
Being super cautious but don’t care.
That looks very pricy. I get mine done in London a lot cheaper than you have been charged and the histology check is part of the price I pay at the time
Are you public or private?
Or went private without insurance?
Once you had a mole
Now you have some debt
Financially in a hole
Better insurance you must get
Fun fact – this procedure is supposedly the reason for the Richard Gere hamster story. He was doing a scene with his arse on show, so had a mole removed as it was on the large side.
As it has clearly come as a surprise it seeks likely the cost of treatment was not clear to you ahead of time. If you would have gone ahead anyway at the higher cost I agree with other posters that best plan is to accept and maintain a good relationship.
On the other hand, if you would likely have gone for another option if you’d know I would suggest saying so and at least querying the bill. I had a similar situation once and they voluntarily waived the extra (UK private)
I had a mole removed at a clinic in Budapest, it was a fairly straightforward one, cost was about 100 euros including the histology, plus the price of a cheap flight and two nights in a hotel. Worth considering if you’re paying 1000 at home.
So I rang the private hospital and they said nothing is due that I’ve already paid that they don’t know why HAS sent me a letter
