  1. If it wasn’t for All Quiet on the Western Front it probably would have been nominated for Best Film as well

  2. Probably best year ever for Irish nominations. Normally we’re lucky to get one but this year we got loads.

Banshees of Inisherin got a bunch including a best actor, beat supporting actress and 2 best supporting actors.

And on top of the Banshees of Inisherin and an Cailín Cuín, there’s also Paul Mescal’s best actor nomination and best short movie nomination for Irish Goodbye.

That having been said, there’s stiff competition. I think Ke Huy Quan and Brendan Fraiser will be tough to beat for best actor and best supporting actor. I’d say Banshees of Inisherin will win a few outside of acting, but I’d be pleasantly surprised if one of our actors or smaller movies won.

  3. Watched the livestream and almost welled up. Not sure if that was pride, or a flashback to the film’s ending.

  4. It’s a beautiful film. Partly because it is so quiet. We don’t get that enough these days. Oddly enough, you could say the same about Banshees and Aftersun.
Odd, quiet, affecting films that let the story unfold with human drama and no explosions.
It’s a great year for Irish film, no matter what happens.

  5. It’s such a lovely film, I’m thrilled that more people will probably see it now. And maybe even read the book – Claire Keegan is one of our best writers and Foster was published for the first time in the US late last year despite being out here for years.

  6. The amount of Irish media nominated for the Oscars this year is mental, I swear I saw an Irish film or actor in nearly every single category.

  7. Anyone here do their leaving cert in 2019 remember doing the short story this film is based on “Foster” for the Ordinary Level English Exam?
