It needs a lot more funds to truly rival Belt an Road
I’m not sure what kind of future the B&R project has given that most of the historic land routes in the transition zone between Europe & Asia (Belorus, Ukraine, Western Russia) are either too unstable for profitable use or a smoking warzone. The Caucasus region remains viable enough but they’d still have to cross southern russia/northern caucasus.
I can’t imagine Xi is pleased with Putin compromising much of the territory that B&R project was predicted to run though.
