I’m really hoping someone can help me. I found this amongst my grandmothers things when she passed. I know she was Slovak because her mothers maiden name was Czernak. Is this a family crest? Or a crest from Czechoslovakia at all?

I believe that a leaping one-tailed lion (“lion salient”) should not be a personal coat of arms (or family coat of arms). Personally, therefore, I consider that this is purely a brooch.
The city of Lyon in France, for example, uses such a depiction in the same colours (similar). As for the question about “Czech lions” – they are two-tailed and crowned.
The wiki page for ‘Czech lion’ says it may have originated from a silver single-tailed leaping lion on a red field, given as a crest to Vladislaus II, Duke and King of Bohemia. So this could also hypothetically be it.
Looks like a normal brooch, if you have more pictures from more sides I may be able to tell how old it is, but I think it could be between 1918-1939

“Czernak” doesn’t sound Slovak. More like Polish.
