I wouldn’t mind if historical figures popped up in Euro coins more tbh, but that’s probably just the history geek in me
Chad roman coin vs virgin Euro…
Why do I love this so much?
One of the greatest rulers mankind has ever seen
Michelangelo’s piazza floors as an add on 🙂
So it will still show only “the better EU” and neglecting rest of eu on the coin. Nice. And even UK still remains.
The Euro coin is definitely depicting a statue, but are we sure that the Roman coin isn’t simply a depiction of Marcus Aurelius on a horse rather than a depiction of a statue of Marcus Aurelius on a horse?

Ghm, has the position of the right hand really changed since then?
2007 vs 174.
Edit: for those asking about the hand and the horse, [here you can compare it with the statue](https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Statua_Marco_Aurelio_-_Campidoglio.JPG) (this is the main copy in the Capitolium square, the original is in the nearby museum)
each country from the Euro zone has different images for each coin. I’m not sure , but this one is probably Italian
Roman horse more anatomically correct
Damn, we couldn’t get a better horse artist than the Romans did?
So they were worried it would be perceived as a nazi salute?
This is 50 ct.
The EU is the Roman Empire’s final form and you can’t change my mind.
[Actual statue of Marc Aurelius](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equestrian_Statue_of_Marcus_Aurelius?wprov=sfti1https://maps.apple.com/?ll=41.893000,12.483000&q=Equestrian%20Statue%20of%20Marcus%20Aurelius), currently in the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
