HMRC boss tells MPs ‘innocent errors’ are not penalised amid Zahawi tax row

  1. How can you make an “innocent error” and not pay tax on £xxm?

Or is it just the norm for the rich to treat tax as optional and something that pleb do?

  2. Facts are being misconstrued in here.
Zahawi was charged the tax, interest, and penalties.

The head of HMRC is not saying Zahawi is innocent.

Jim Harra said that Zahawi is guilty, because HMRC doesn’t charge penalties to innocent people and they charged one to the ex-chancellor

This is a big deal. The head of HMRC is a very senior civil servant. He has 40 years tax experience, and he’s well respected, he was also very clear in his wording today.

The Guardian has just worded it badly in their headline.

  3. Yet my innocent error caused by employers means I get hit with a demand to pay outstanding tax…

    It’s not my bloody error!

  4. Innocent error to the tune of £4m. Put him in fucking jail to rot. What an utter scummy little man.
