Doesn’t surprise me, a friend used to work in the home office and said every gift they received was bugged but these were the ones they wanted to be found.
Some digital things are fine.
I’m having as little as possible.
Anything voice activation is listening all the time. It literally has to otherwise it cant work.
Neither do I want apps for my fridge, heating, front door etc.
Obviously keys and locks arent fool proof but at least its not being mined for advertising or worse.
Fyi delete tiktok. Its literally a data mine. If you dont believe me go and read its list of permissions. It records your keystrokes on your phone.
>London: A former UK diplomat who advised the Parliament on Beijing has warned the government that China has the ability to spy on common people by “weaponizing” microchips embedded in cars, refrigerators and even light bulbs.
>According to a report sent to the government by the former diplomat, the “Trojan horse” technology poses a “wide range” of threat to the national security of the country.
>Trojan Horse is a type of malware that can be used as legitimate code or software. Once lodged inside a device or a network, hackers are able to control any action that a legitimate user could perform.
>Along with this, Trojan Horse can collect data and then transmit it via 5G networks, giving China the ability to monitor every move of targets including common people as well as use the devices for industrial espionage, according to *Telegraph*.
>The author of the report Charles Parton says that the UK government has completely failed to understand the seriousness of the threat posed by cellular IoTs (Internet of Things).
>“We are not yet awake to this threat. China has spotted an opportunity to dominate this market, and if it does so it can harvest an awful lot of data as well as making foreign countries dependent on them,” Parton said.
Hang on so your telling me that a country that’s big on spying and responsible for close to 100% of our manufactured goods are spying on us with those goods. Who would have thought it.
The only thing that will shock me is if all other major countries don’t do it either. If the technology exists then it’s being put to use.
It’s better to point a finger at China as a bogeyman, than to USA, or a European country which we feel has the same “values” as us.
Well, yeah.
They’re talking about risks from common IoT devices; now, imagine that the device in question is your smart electric meter.
What could go wrong!
They need to do a better job, my dryer just will not connect to my WiFi. Fucking thing.
How do you even put a listening device in a lightbulb? I’m more impressed than shocked really.
If in doubt, blame Russia or China.
The Five Eyes network spy on each other and pass the intelligence back to the host nation, to get around the legality of spying on their own citizens.
I don’t give a fuck what China knows about me, they have no ability to affect my life. The UK government on the other hand..
No shit. We’ve given them access to everything by manufacturing everything in China & then downloaded “Tiktok” to get an even better picture of everything we do.
We know they are doing it through TikTok already. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who has any knowledge of Chinese spying tactics and political motivations. They might get much from the average person but the rich and connected, who are most likely to have smart devices like this, are a goldmine of information.
Just China is it?
The UK would never do such a thing right?
“We know they’re doing it- because that’s exactly what we would do given the chance”
Mate I can’t imagine the boring life the poor fucker that has to listen in on my life.
You could “same” the whole page every day.

Yeah that’s cool but when I say that I’m crazy and a conspiracy theorist
> China spying on people via fridges, laptops and light bulbs, former UK diplomat warns
No he didn’t. He said that they have the ability to do that, granted because we have bought and installed goods made in China. It is a risk and we should remain vigilant but let’s not jump the gun yet.
I remember over 20 years ago the relevation after the twin towers that the US Army had built a massive underground technical facility which was monitoring the Internet for specific key words which would then be transfered to an operative for further investigation.
I have no doubt thay are doing something much more intrusive now.
The headline is very misleading (essentially a baseless opinion piece) – “has the ability” does not equal actively “spying”
In theory the US or literally any country has the ability to “spy” on us through various means. Apple could in theory turn your phone into a 24/7 bug if they wanted
The bollocks they come up with, next your sex toys will be spying on you.
I’d hate to be the guy watching me through my fridge
“It’s 3am why is he eating cheese singles again. He had some right before bed. The fuck is wrong with this guy”
If you’ve ever installed an app that required access to your contacts, your photos, camera and mic, and even mobile data, and you failed to question why, it’s likely too late to be concerned about being spied on.
Just saying- lots of whataboutism in this post.
Be wary of posts criticising a country full of comments telling you to look at another country
Siri told me how cheese was made the other day when I accidentally activated it by trying to turn off my podcast via my headphones. It wasn’t even me that was talking, it had picked up my husband’s voice, heard him tell me that his crisps flavour was “cheese” and started on a random monologue without being asked.
So yeah, these things are aware. But I like my phone and I’m only going to be marketed more rubbish that I won’t want or can’t afford so who cares?
there is a time I would have said this was paranoid, but some people have versions of those things that are connected to Wi-Fi these days.

That being said, im not sure what China hopes to learn from how often I use my light bulbs.
is it still spying when idiots happily agree to the t&c?
Which means that so is probably every other country that has this capability. Including probably the UK.
The only real defense the common man has against this is being as unimportant as possible. Be the hay blade in the hay stack
Man, I do not care. What are the Chinese gonna do to me?
My worry is that if the Chinese can do it, anyone probably can.
I’d be more concerned about the TikToks that get sent back to China for the AI to examine the background in shot.
America spying on you via fridges, laptops and light bulbs, former UK diplomat warns.
There: wasn’t that easy.
Spying on people as they attempt to keep warm and eating their pot noodles.
I could not imagine anything more boring that spying on my private life
Meanwhile, my government are trying their best to ruin my life.
I am opting to not care what China are doing when my enemy is much closer to home.
Its ok, I wear a mask when I’m masturbating in my fridge. They’ll never know its me 🤷
Chinese-made spying and speaking fridge
*Put that back, you greedy snacking bastard*
What an age we live in where the headlines read like the ramblings of a schizophrenic. “The Chinese are spying on me through my fridge”
