Fine Gale TD, Ciaran Cannon took to twitter in attempt to belittle up and coming Irish artists Sprints. Subsequently receiving major backlash from the Arts community. Since receiving such backlash, Cannon has since deleted the tweet and issued an apology. Not a great look for FG at all.

Wow, someone linked to FG not understanding arts and or culture.
I don’t think anyone cares. But if it was my job to promote Irish art I’d have to be some thick bollox to go on the internet and slag off Irish bands.
Great bit of attention for the band in fairness
I’m amazed he didn’t say he was hacked
Chooses one of the only decent irish bands of the last 10 years to slag off.
Probably loves a bit of Westlife.
“Hurry dear..Tubs has Picture This on!!”
Well.. if it’s the act I’m thinking of he’s probably not wrong. But that’s an observation that should be reserved for his internal monologue.
What band is he talking about?
On top of that, it’s just a shite joke.
I’ve never heard this bands music but when your the spokesperson of Arts, Culture, and Music, maybe you should promote and encourage any and all Irish artists even if “you” think they aren’t good.
It’s literally your job mate.
Will look into this band now though.
Fine Gael being out of touch… well I never
Also, what an absolutely shite attempt at an insult
Been lucky to know few the people in sprints, it really wont affect them, but I can almost bet he will get mentioned in a future song.
Sprints have a great song called “Swimming”. Its looking at that lovely white water raft center we spent lots of money researching and did nothing with….YAY.
0 days since our last nonsense
Signing off a tweet/email with your initial is a quick and easy way to let everyone know you’re a wanker.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, sure.
But I also expect better from someone who is literally an elected representative, never mind one who is apparently also a party spokesperson for arts and culture.
It just screams “I’m a thick cunt who doesn’t know how to keep my mouth shut”.
Actually did lankum reply to this on Twitter – it was deleted so wasn’t sure
Went and looked them up.
Liked the [first song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLTI6gDyxGs&list=PLfANLWXYrTBpIXinl0owgE2CFJj04wZKu) I came across by them anyway.
Edit: turns out I like quite a lot of their stuff.
Irish Begrudgery, One of the most damaging parts of our society towards each other and it runs from the top down.
This is the reason why Irish people only accept Irish artists when they’re sold back to us by the Americans or the British.
He should not be spokesperson for arts if this is how he treats irish artists.
Just had a listen…why would anyone talk the band down? It’s not like they’re making some obscure noise punk music with more feedback than substance. It’s good honest garage/indie punk and from what I could tell from listening to “Literary Mind” really fucking quality at that.
Ireland is killing it right now with their bands; Fontaines DC, Gilla Band, the new Murder Capital album is fucking killer and now I have Sprints to add to that list. Happy for anyone to give a shout to someone else I should listen to.
Very jealous of the stuff going on over there
What a daft comment with his responsibility. It reminds me of Homer on the plane staring at the “do not touch” button.
I mean….what a fucking clown. You really couldn’t make it up.
Imagine it being your entire appointment to promote, support, and protect Irish arts and culture and then you take to your internet soapbox to do the complete opposite. Lol. I’d be fired from my job if I did the literal antithesis of my job description. I suspect he’s still got the job, aye?
Shite comment from him but it’s gas hearing a punk band singing with south Dublin accent
I actually kinda like the idea of a Minister for Music who just dumps on every new band on Twitter. Basically a Donald Trump but for culture.
“Too loud, you suck!” – Minister for Arts
People in Ireland : I’m not sure I like this fella now
Also people in Ireland : pathologically votes for the same cunts every time
I’m gonna go and have a listen to Sprints now, thanks for the rec Ciaran!
I’m not a twitter use, but I have often sent texts/whatsapps at 10:30pm on a Saturday night, sometimes they were fine, sometimes they led to regret the next day.
Much like me, Ciaran would be better off articulating his thoughts at that time of the week to the wall or the dog/cat and not to the whole world on Twitter.
Waiting for the report that he us somehow connected to the band and this was a hustle to help promote the band.
What a numpty.
As my mum always say, if you have nothing nice to say. Don’t say anything.
It’s a very unfair comment to make, even if the band are indie landfill.
He removed that TT, what a c***. Own your mistakes knob head!
Having dealt with the arts council in the past, I’m surprised he was this nice.
Can someone help me out with what TY means in this context?
What a bell end
The apology was so insincere that I truly believe he wrote it himself, usually they have the PR person write them but clearly not this fella.
He’s supposed to be a glorified salesman bigging up Irish artists. He has failed on this occasion
Sheesh. In his capacity, simply stating nothing and minding his business would have been a better tactic.
Only tangibly related – but I fucking love the Wallopers.
10/10 lads
Hey they can’t all be good can they?
Sometimes terrible music needs telling it’s terrible. But this idiot has just guaranteed them more likes/listens/fans
Was it another of those “kinda trad but with rock and pop” like the hundreds that seem to pop up every month?
He is right they are shite.
Worse though is that he provided blindboy bandwagon another opportunity to soapbox
