Films & series full of mistakes – This is how badly Hollywood knows Switzerland (in German)

  1. Ah actually the Wolf of Wall Street scene in Geneva got me laughing. They even took the most french actor ever to play a swiss banker. And this completely impossible view of the lake, Grotesque but hilarious 😀

  2. I don’t know if you know how image rights work for brands and public companies.

Almost all of the things related in the article are rights issues.

Why put Basel Banque when it asks for 100K $ image rights while Gasel is free and may act as an easter-egg for viewers.

Then concerning the plans which do not correspond to reality, this is very frequent in the cinema and even in the USA.

It’s very common for a story to take place in Atlanta or Boston, but the filming location is Vancouver.

This is also about rights and production costs.

Lately, for anything license plate or maybe phone numbers, etc…

It is impossible for a cinema production to know or not if the number or the registration is really attributed.

Might as well invent one based on similar graphics to once again avoid legal problems.

To conclude, we must not forget that the cinema is an fictional acted spectacle which never wanted to be realistic.

I hope I was able to enlighten you and I apologize for my bad English 😉

  3. Things like a conference that doesn’t exist aren’t mistakes though. Movies aren’t accurate depictions of reality, they can invent things.

On a less serious note: Why not Gasel Bank? Gasel BE is a real place.

  4. At least it’s not Bollywood

I started to watch an old movie when I first moved here, hadn’t seen it in ages

The main hero tells the heroine – if you’re free, why don’t you come with me and I’ll show you around Zurich. I live there so I was so excited.

    They went to Luzerne. 🤬

  5. Everytime I drive on the Furka with my Dad: “It’s exactly here where James Bond stood and somewhere up there was the shooter”.

  6. Actually, I was impressed that the American cartoon „Archer“ managed to portray Switzerland quite accurately several times. They got the hotel Palace in Gstaad pretty right and made jokes about the use of Rumantsch or the battle of Grauholz.
