The majority is in favor though (because “East Germany” is actually just 12% of the population)
Also where the majority of AfD fascist voters are.
In Germany there’s currently a debate on what to do about the fact that East-Germans only have about 7.4% share in managerial positions in federal institutions (without Berlin). Given that some 15% of the population are East-German that’s not much and there’s not thoughts on how to increase the number of people in these positions.
I think a better way would be to simply deport the Russian shills to Russia. That way we’d get perfect representation.
I apologize for asking, but what’s the justification in the east for not sending tanks? I understand there was some hesitation in Germany overall re: number of tanks available, escalation, etc., but is the eastern portion just more worried about that? Or is there some other reason?
Edit: thanks for the explanations! I meant “reasoning” and not “justification”; didn’t mean to imply one thing or another! I plead ~~the 5th~~ ignorance here lol I’m the last person to decide if Germany should send tanks or not.
some people just love them some z russia culture.
it super weird when people who lived under these regimes are still simping for russia
Ossis halt.
Did the East-Germans enjoy the Soviet occupation? Or do they have a memory like a goldfish?
Polls like these are pretty meaningless. “Eastern Germany” isn’t an entity anymore. You have to consider that about 40% of the Eastern German population moved to the West after 1990, mostly young and educated people. If these people stayed, the poll would look much more uniform.
how cute
Eastern Germany and Western Germany think usually different.
It’s a good exampke of the horseshoe theory, AfD faschos and old Commies voting Linke are promi ent in the east and sometimes agree more with each other than with the other parties.
stockholm syndrome
The fine print is important here. That’s a poll among readers of the web edition of ‘Der Spiegel’, a center-left publication. The poll is not useless, but of course it is not precise. You can expect the majority to hold in a poll that was conducted by a research institute, but the true majority in favour is likely smaller.
Still?
Not surprising. The older people now living in the eastern part of the country would have lived in the GDR and been indoctrinated as children. Therefore it’s likely a lot of that older folk still ( kinda ) sees Russia as an ally.
I dislike this split between “east and west” as it makes it look like the general german population is split on this question, which is not true. It’s more like “west” means west+south+north germany while east is really just the east.
The whole of east germany has less inhabitants than single federal states like Bavaria or NRW, so their influence and importance is quite limited.
Ossies still being Ossies. The 31% who voted “richtig” are the young generation.
The older ones have been going along to get along with imperialism, fascism, communism and Putinism for centuries. They should move to RuZZia to enjoy the inferior lifestyle, career opportunities, pensions, government services, high corruption and high crime that RuZZia offers. Plus their men getting conscripted into being meat shields in the war.
Why are the people who lived under the iron curtain against it?
Warum ist es falsch?!
Interesting that so few are undecided although probably the majority is very under informed to make a dicision on this.
Stockholm syndrome – even after all these years.
I don’t understand this Stockholm syndrome of East Germany. People where fleeing, people were trying to cross the border putting their lives at risk, stasi was shit, you can still clearly see the difference between the East and the West for what concerns the economy, but yet don’t touch russia. Which is even funnier considering that (almost, I guess) all the other countries that had to do with russia and its wonders would like to put 1000 miles between them and russia.
I’m sure they would feel differently if Russia was invading Germany.
Weird, you’d think living through communism under Russian occupation would make them more empathetic to Ukrainians.
From Polish perspective: shouldn’t easter Germany be more anti russia:?

In the East they prefer Volksfahrräder.
