Durham University to increase college fees increase by 10.3 per cent

  1. That’s a terrible title. Is it that the already announced increase is increasing by a further 10% or is it increasing the overall cost by 10%? There’s a huge difference between the two.

  2. What else do people expect? When so much university funding now comes solely from students and their fees, and when tuition fees are some ~£3,000 per student below where they should be if they just kept pace with CPI, of fucking course universities, as businesses, remember that’s how we all pushed them to operate in 2011, are going to find other ways to raise revenues and not fall into bankruptcy.

    It continually baffles me so many of the negative things we see happening in our HE sector are a direct result of the incentive structures universities have been forced to operate within, yet half the time people still flip the blame onto universities for acting in the ways that they are forced to to remain solvent.
