Erdogan is right about one thing in this whole debacle, you shouldn’t be in an alliance with a party you cannot trust. As a Swede, Turkey has shown themselves to be an untrustworthy peer and at this point I feel like remaining outside of NATO is the better option if we seek stability and safety.

Finland in NATO makes Sweden an island surrounded by NATO. In practice it would make Sweden’s membership even more implicit than it already is. And it would of course make the only “risk” of Russian attack impossible: one where the Baltic states and Gotland were swiftly annexed by Russia (I’m old enough to remember 2021 when that sounded like a reasonable thing Russia would be capable of).

My dad is saying Turkey’s continued nato membership is outdated. The only reason Turkey even became part of Turkey was so the Americans could put Nukes near the Soviets in the 50s. They do not fit the mold of other NATO members and are clearly causing cohesion problems.

We should probably just have a NATO2 organization which all current members can join with Sweden & Finland and Turkey can decide if it wants in or not…if they don’t then who cares.
