It’s good to see people finally giving a shit about prisons. Perhaps we could use this as a springboard to talk about real reform of the justice system?
Tabloid/oped childishly screaming about the SNP has become my least favorite genre of article. These papers clearly hate the SNP, yet they constantly make them look like the adults in the room.
I sometimes see comments in these threads bringing up the hypothetical case of a violent female sexual offender, with the claim being that this is no different from a transwoman in terms of the challenge of managing the danger they present to other prisoners. But this seriously underestimates how incredibly rare this type of offending is in females compared to males. Housing every trans identified male offender in the women’s prison estate would fundamentally change its nature and requirements:
