Finland to stick with Sweden in NATO bid, hopes for green light by July

  1. Well wonder what event could be happening just before July to fundamentally change Erdogan’s ability to make a different decision?

  2. Not a huge suprise, although I expect its more about not letting some tinpot dictator like Erdo dictate how they do anything, the solidarity with Sweden is just a bonus.

  3. The smart thing to do.
Put on the brakes and wait a while.
Things might change after May 14th and a more productive trusthworthy negotiation environment be established.
If nothing changes after May 14th, then any debate up until that day would have been wasted anyway.

  4. Well it seems clear that Turkey’s commitment to Article 5 is contingent upon Erdogan getting his way in internal politics, so this is not a surprise.

The Baltics invaded by Russia? Erdogan only sends troops and material if Riga hands over some journalist that wrote a critical article. Or if the US sells them F16s that they can resell to Putin.

  5. Hopefully Erdoğan gets kicked out by then. All the main oppositon leaders have good intentions (atleast for now) towards the bid and europe in general. Though Erdoğan still harms the future relations with EU, I bet my name that if Turkey changes government it will try to join the union. And will get a bad reaction due to this bad history. Still this is probably the least of concerns that we should have.

  6. I support the morality of this but if finland joins then sweden is defacto protected as there’s no land passage for Russia and their navy would just get picked apart…..so finland join alone
