This means that after Doel 3, the second nuclear reactor will disappear from the Belgian nuclear park. However, Doel 3 and Tihange 2 are more than 7 years younger than our three oldest.

Electrabel immediately decided to also investigate Tihange 2: the nuclear reactor vessel was after all made by the same manufacturer. The scans were alarming: they showed more than 3000 error indications in the reactor vessel.

… and after thorough investigation, it was concluded that the impurities weren’t an issue, and the reactors were deemed safe.

What is Ecolo and Groen’s opinion on the power shortages? I certainly believe that we should continue investing in renewable energy but I severely doubt that we’ll have enough by 2025, all the more if we want to continue electrifying our cars.

this is really sad news, nuclear energy is the most environmentally friendly energy there is. now we’re just going to have to reopen coal plants or what ?
Biggest mistake of the century if you look to it with pragmatic view. Nuclear expertise in Belgium was actually something to be proud of. Green dogmatism wins today and we all will pay the price. Really sad and especially very dumb.
What a disgrace. Shame on us. So much for low carbon energy.
