  1. So we dropped to being 3rd most corrupt after years of topping the chart. Seems like not even corruption is what it used to be.

  2. Not defending Hungary here, but this is a PERCEPTION index. It’s totally subjective. Corruption could be higher in reality in countries that are seen more favourably.

  3. >With a score of 28, Russia has one of the lowest results in Eastern Europe, and its full-scale invasion of Ukraine last February is a “stark reminder of the threat that corruption and the absence of government accountability pose for global peace and security,” according to a press release published with the report.

Hmm. I don’t really think that corruption in Russia has a lot to do with Russia attacking other countries. Maybe in the indirect sense that a less-corrupt Russia might have been seen as a more-desirable partner and had countries more-interested in maintaining relations with Russia, but I assume that that isn’t what is meant.

  4. Well, Orbán and Co worked hard on it! Job well done!!

    Number 1! Much Stronk.

BTW, their propaganda machine already started saying that Brussels is more corrupt then Hungary. Yes, they still using the EU and Brussels interchangeably. TBH, because Hungary is (still) in EU, their’s some merit to that statement. 🙂

  5. what about Romania?! Can’t beat every-person-in-the-public-sector-is-hired-based-on-bribes!!!

  6. Still 10 points above Ukraine which is kinda worrying.

Biggest loser of that war is the young men who has to die, like always.

  7. Greetings from Romania, not ud anymore! :))

Also, last year i wanted to visit Budapest. Gave up after seeing most hotels in Budapest are full of reviews on Booking.com for stealing out of travel bags and drunk behavior around the hotel. They are really trying hard to be Russia of Europe.

  8. Did you ever heard about Perception bias](https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/blog/corruption-perceptions-index-cpi-good-bad-and-ugly/)? It is the perception of corruption by its citizens. Put a few corruption scandals in the news around the period when the survey is done and you get a perfect fine-tuned score. The same public perceive that there is a global conspiracy behind COVID 19.
So would you trust the perception on corruption survey?

What is sad is that Transparency which ranks 🇦🇪 higher than 🇫🇷, and 🇶🇦 between France 🇫🇷 and 🇺🇸, has any legitimacy on this issue.

There is strong concerns about corruption, but corruption is phenomenon which cannot be measured through perception. There are scientific works which use a complex model to predict level of corruption, and not this fast-quasi-science pamphlets.
