As a German, with a huge amount of gratitude for what he has done to freedom and peace in Europe (the Europe where I was born in, the Europe I grew up in), I am hereby expressing my most heartfelt congratulations to your former Prime Minister Miklós Németh who turns 75 today.

According to my memories, he was not made prime minister by free elections, yet he was the best prime minister of the last 40 years. You could really come back…
Some extra info, if anyone wants to know more about this era. Prime Minister Miklós Németh served only for a relatively short time, but helped a lot the democratic transition of Hungary & Germany (at least he had some positive impact with some rational decisions), so he seems to be a relatively good politician (which is quite rare)! ☺

>”After being promoted to Prime Minister in November 1988, Németh made the controversial decision to let [the East Germans](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Germany), long held restricted on the right to travel, pass through Hungary to make their way into [West Germany](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Germany). This decision is widely regarded as a contributing factor to the fall of the [Berlin Wall](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Wall) on 9 November, 1989.[[22]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikl%C3%B3s_N%C3%A9meth#cite_note-22) He became Hungary’s first post-Communist Prime Minister after the [Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Socialist_Workers%27_Party) was transformed into the [Hungarian Socialist Party](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Socialist_Party), on 7 October, 1989, a left of centre social democratic party – of which Németh was a founding member. Following the passing of constitutional amendments by parliament on 23 October 1989 that removed the Constitution’s communist character, Németh became the first (provisional) Prime Minister of the Third Hungarian Republic, and the new leader of Hungary as such.”
*edit: clarification
Based on my secondary school studies, he is known for his role in implementing economic and political reforms in Hungary, which helped to transition the country from a communist state to a democratic one.
He also played a key role in opening up the country to Western Europe and promoting the country’s integration into international organizations such as the European Union.
It is understandable that you have a positive opinion about his role and impact in Hungary and Europe. Wishing him a happy birthday.
