Entering into the European Union requires you to have no ongoing conflict or territorial pretentions. Moldova has a part of its country occupied by separatists, who defacto have their own government. This simply won’t be allowed, not just by Russia, but also by the EU.
I know Moldova hopes to resolve the issue by bringing it in with them, and using the weight of the other EU members to push, but this is in nobody else’s interest.
On one hand: Yes it is.
On the other: If Moldova fulfills the conditions to join at any point in the next 2 decades I will be surprised.
Russia is all up for peoples freedom to choose, just look at Crimea. They wanted to join RF and so they did. Now Ukraine, Finland and Sweden can join Nato if they so choose, right?
Stupid question but why isn’t Moldova a part of Romania? Is it something from WWII? Wikipedia isn’t that clear

Russia could fuck off. Moldova as well as Ukraine and Georgia made their choice and moscovia doesn’t have any vote in it.
I can’t blame Moldova for not wanting to follow the example of a country like Russia, where a good chunk of the population still lives in relative poverty and where corruption is more rampant than anywhere in the EU. Their President is only doing what’s best for the country.
Well, we can see the effect Brexit is having on other countries trying to join the EU.
I dont understand why this country even exists and why they re not united with Romania yet. Whats this talk about joining the EU? Never gonna happen with Transnistria next door. Uniting with Romania is their only chance

All Moldovans already are EU citizens since Romania grants all ethnic Moldovans who want Romanian citizenship which in turn they can use to live anywhere in the EU just as a Romanian would. Romanians and Moldovans are the same people, were all known as [Vlachs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlachs) in the middle ages and up to the late 1800s.
Trust me when I say they won’t get into EU for the next 20 years. I am from Macedonia. We are waiting to get in that fucking union since our independence. We just won’t get in for another like 20 years. Why? We, Macedonia don’t provide anything to the EU! Why would they let us in?!?! You don’t just put a few dumbbells in your backpack while working right?!? Why would they pull dead weight?!?! The same goes for Moldova, they are even worse than us.
