And why for the love of Gott, is there no normal pillow underneath??? Why have the MASSIVE euro pillow as the only pillow in the bed? Don’t you have neckache? Do you sleep without pillows??? What?
I don’t get it!!!!

Just get a rectangular pillow?
Like… What’s the problem here 😅
(probably me with my single room apartment and not under the sunk costs?)
I don’t know. Im german and I never had one and never seen one in any bedroom i ever been in. I realy have no idea why foreigners think they are common in germany.
? You can move the down filling around to any shape and hight you want.
80×80 is what we consider a normal pillow.
usually they are soft and fluffy and you squeeze and squish them in the form you like and ..sleep on them.
On the contrary, I hate sleeping with the rectangular, way too hard US style pillows.
(and don’t get me started on sleeping with a duvet/comforter, that’s just torture)
In 20 years of traveling dozens of countries I didn’t have a single acceptable pillow in a hotel. That has nothing to do with Germany.
Different countries, different habits.
e.g. I’ll never get why one could want a top sheet
Love how you want to talk about german pillows but link to a picture from Wallmart.
I can attest to this. I grew up in Australia and we only ever have rectangle pillows but when I arrived in Germany I constantly came across these large square things. Still don’t understand it to this day. But it really was only in Germany
not what is pictured here (walmart lol), but i guess you mean the generic 80x80cm pillows?
that’s the standard size in Germany, and far superior to the other option of 40x80cm – which you can also get basically everywhere. i don’t really see the problem here…
Contrary to popular belief it is not actually illegal to buy smaller pillows if you prefer them.
Those suck. No idea why some ppl have them. No-one in my surrounding uses these
But from what I know, they are too soft and are not very dense.
I usually have 2 big ones (80×80) plus 2 small ones (80×40) on my bed 😁 But hey, to each their own, just buy a smaller one if you prefer. I’m pondering the idea of buying a donut shaped pillow (the hole is for where your ear is) because it bothers me and it hurts when I lay on my ear.
The pillows on your photo are for decorative purpose only. No German would sleep on such a pillow. This is impossible. German pillows work as follows: They are stuffed with real soft feathers. These need space to expand during the daytime. To sleep you shake them up such that the lower part is nearly empty, fold in half and tug the empty part under the pillow which is now very soft.
80×80 pillows (usually very soft) are multi purpose: Have the full size pillow propped behind your back to do this weird half-sit-half-lie-down thing you do when you read or watch netflix in bed. Fold the pillow in half and squeeze it to the right form to sleep on. If you fold it it will be 40×80 just like what you propably consider a standard pillow.
You are not supposed to put the whole 80×80 lying flat under your shoulder/neck area.
Funny you ask that. I always miss them when I travel to the UK or USA. Why on earth do you guys use such small, useless pillows?
>hey germany

Counterquestion: Why do people in English speaking countries often so many useless throw pillows? I have never seen anything like it in Germany and wouldn’t know what to do with them at night.
I ONLY use my Shaun the sheep pillow to sleep which I got as a present when I turned 7 (it’s small)
Just fold them in half, my guy.
You wait till the stuffing is dead, then fold the thing in half and use as a normal pillow
Yeah, these are awful. I come from the US and we have a really weird pillow size there that seems to not exist anywhere else (I think it’s like 50.8×76.2), but I was so used to sleeping on those… And then here… These things are about twice as big but somehow even the ones I bought which were specifically firm and “tall” still only have about half the filling of the American ones… They are ridiculously uncomfortable… It’s one thing that no matter how long I’m here I don’t think I’ll ever be able to quite get used to.
I still wonder about this after 6 years here. Am from a neighbouring country and never saw pillows like this as the norm.
Why the fuck is everyone so upset this pic is from Walmart? Literally who cares. This is almost exactly what they look like and they have a point the pillows are so shit😂
I am convinced those fucking pillows are a torture device to give to guests you dislike.
You can buy rectangular pillows and bed cover sets matching them in Germany. What others do is their business.
You can buy 50×75 pillows. Usually at an actual bedding store. Obviously a bit pricier than Ikea, but worth it.
