Hello, I’m from Argentina.
I’m looking for my great great grandmother, Maria Amelia Sychra (?) (The grandmother of my grandmother). We know she was from Czechoslovakia and came here sometime between 1905 and 1915. We managed to find her death certificate (image 1), and it states she came from some place called “Berzk” (we think, it’s in image 2 anyway if you have another guess for what it says). We want to know where this place is. My grandma says she heard her talk about her place of origin as a very little town/village. She (my great great grandmother) did travel back to that town to see her mother, Maria Pemni (my great great great grandmother) at some point between 1920 and 1930 and came back here to continue her life. We also know her son, Blas Alejandro Rivero (my great grandfather) travelled with his wife sometime around 1980 (from 1978 to 1986) (he never got there but he was aiming). We want to know where is (or was) that village if anybody knows or can help us with any info like the region or whatever, thank you so much in advance.

TL;DR: I’m looking for a town called “Bezrk” (image 2) in Czechoslovakia

  2. I am concerned that the village/town has been entered incorrectly in the register. However, I am sending you a list of municipalities in the Czech Republic that have the base “Bez or Ber”. Maybe you will find some similarity in other documents.

    BTW – The name of the municipality at that time could also have been written in German. Also how it is written it also reminds me the word “Bezirk” which can be translated from German as “district”.

  3. Do you have any other information where she came from? Any old letters? There are “only” about 600 people with surname Sychra in this country [https://www.kdejsme.cz/prijmeni/Sychra/hustota/](https://www.kdejsme.cz/prijmeni/Sychra/hustota/), so with a little bit more information you can narrow the search.

    Maybe a blank shot, but if the Bezrk is not a abbreviation for German word Bezirk, it could be mis-pronounced and shortened Boskovice/Bozkowitz, where some people with that surname still live.

  5. Czechoslovakia didnt exist until 28.10.1918 so if she came to Argentina between 1905 and 1915 she was from Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

    Maria Amelia to me seems like German/Austria based name and “Bezirk” is German word for district. Due to language barier and lack of information it could end up as “name of city”
