Embarking on a journey to fix up my old car, it has been standing in a garage for a couple of years now and I am a bit of an amateur when it comes to DIY work on cars.

I am now in the process of sourcing the right tools (socket wrenches, breaker bars … etc.) and I am keen on some tips regarding brands or where to buy (online vs Bauhaus, APL … etc.).

Right now I am struggling to find a good (and affordable) lifting jack. I came across [these](https://letzshop.lu/de/products/cric-hydraulique-roulant-extra-plat-3-tonnes-75-505mm-varanmotors-3ead44) guys, pricing seems okay and it ticks the boxes by being low-profile and having a 500mm lifting height. Also they are local which makes delivery fast and free (as opposed to many online options) Has anyone here ever had experience with them? If not, can anyone recommend a good lifting jack?

  3. Globus has an ok car section. I bought a nice aluminum floor jack from there. I’m from America and I have to say the car culture here is much different.   4. MGs are cool. The is a pretty active MG club but it might be for the older ones. Yes Globus in Bettembourg is the one I usually end up at but there is another in Junglinster.

  5. Don’t forget to get Jack stands to protect yourself in case of jack failure – technical failure or operator error of not having the valve closed correctly.
    Personally I prefer using ramps for maintenance work where I don’t need to lift a tire or side individually as it gives you more room.

  6. I believe you can’t go wrong with any lifting jack, like someone else commented though, get a pair of Jack stands aswell and use them!

    If you’re not in a hurry and especially if you’re trying to save a few coins, give facebook marketplace a try… have a quick look everyday and you’ll be surprise what you can find…
