I’m a cyclist and this infuriates me, these weekend warriors need to split into groups and cycle 2 abreast.
There is just no way that a group this size can organise themselves to let cars go by safely.
Exactly how they should be cycling.
If they were all to cycle in single file it would become extremely dangerous to overtake them because you would be in the other lane for longer, and there would be an increased risk of hitting them because the driver would be trying to stay in their lane as much as possible, thereby not giving sufficient clearance to the cyclists.
This is good cycling practice.

So, cyclists in a group want to be treated as a vehicle, without actually acting as if they are a vehicle. Slow moving vehicles are supposed to pull in and let traffic pass when it builds up behind them. A group of cyclists will never do that.

As a cyclist,,,and a driver this is annoying 🤦🏻♂️ I don’t go in groups though even though they move faster than an individual cyclist to take up the entire road like that is ignorant and ridiculous should be max two abreast if even that. Single file in groups would work as is dangerous to be clumped together like that but they’d be competitive also. Have met groups though on actual cycle paths in Dublin before and even in that setting they took up more space than needed in the lane going the opposite direction to them forcing people to move out of there way🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
That all being said there’s literally nowhere for them to go to get a decent cycle in without using busy and no1 wants to build (decent) cycle paths even though everyone would use them. When I say cycle path I mean 40+ kilometers not just a tiny 2km stretch around town that would take a couple of minutes to do

Unpopular opinion: I both drive and cycle. I’m verrry particular about following the rules of the road as a cyclist because, well it annoys me as a driver when cyclists don’t. But, I’ve had so.many.close scrapes with card overtaking me extremely close on unbroken white lines that I now purposefully move out to the centre of the lane at those points and then back in to the left when it is safe for them to overtake me again.

As a cyclist you’re screwed no matter what. Cycle on the road you’re a bellend and annoying. Cycle on the cycle lane your a bellend and annoying all the walkers and joggers and pram pushers. Can’t win. I’ve had more grief cycling in a cycling lane than a road. Not to mention more punctures in a cycle lane too (glass).

As someone who was out cycling in North Dublin and had a bunch of cunts blast by me today on dangerous bends or with traffic in the other lane, I applaud this. I deliberately move into the lane taking primary position when it’s not safe to pass, still doesn’t stop some pricks from trying. Single white line, not enough room to pass safely, as a driver I would not even considering a pass here.
Gotta congratulate you on reinvigorating that bad, tired David Attenborough impression. Haven’t heard that one in 15 years.

I use the bike myself for commuting and nobody behaves worse on the road than other cyclists..these hideous creatures are the worst of the worst.
